It's not the first time I share this Karen Blixen quote here in the blog, but after my brief holidays in Menorca, where I really felt cured by the sea, I think this is still the best caption.

The cure for anything is salt water — sweat, tears, or the sea.

It's All About Snow

After the two Los Roques posts this is quite a contrast. Imagine how I feel. Still missing the Caribbean (where I was 10 days ago) but hoping to go out tomorrow in the snow and play. I think is worth to mention that on Monday I saw snow for the first time, and that today I saw snow falling for the first time... on Monday when I woke up the snow was already there, like a belated Christmas miracle. Oh yes, I know how I sound, but you see, I have never got the chance of saying that sort of corny remarks related to snow before, so I'm making up for the lost years :)

While we are on the subject, the BFI shared a wonderful short film called Snow made in 1963 by Geoffrey Jones today in its Twitter feed. Please enjoy and have a lovely weekend! x

This past couple of weeks have been very rollercoastery. I've been happy, tired, bored, excited, uninspired and everything in between. I have a lot in my mind. Holly Golightly used to call this 'the mean reds'. Hopefully the weekend sensation (for me, as a freelance that doesn't have to go to an office everyday, the weekend exists, but it no more than a sensation) will wash this feelings away.

- The photos of the post are from London, of course. Lovely, far away, not so close, London.
- Writing an article yesterday I discovered a funny geek guy called Garth Sundem. He makes mathematics equations for solving everyday dilemas suchs as: How many drinks should I have at the conferences hotel bar tonight? Fun.
- I've been listening to this nice mixtape from Sincerely Hana. You should have a look at her photographic work. She have a couple of awesome projects going on.
- Yesterday when I was reaching the top of the mean reds so I went out to grab a coffee and I spotted a girl with one of my totes. That made me happy. I took a photo of her like a papparazzi.
- Finally, Charlie Brooker on Kony2012. Genius.

The Future

Yesterday I saw Miranda July's The Future and I think I liked it. True to her peculiar and too-cool-for-school way of telling stories this movie was somehow magic and complex at the same time. At the end of the movie I really didn't know how to feel. I can only compare it to the end of a psychotherapy session. Mixed feelings of confusion, relieve and lots of new questions popping into my head. Nevertheless I recommend it. Even if you ended up hating it. Why not?


Here's a scene that didn't make it to the final cut of the movie to which I can relate completely.

London Bus Tour

Simple yet full of very nice images and well edited with a super ideal tune from Ratatat, Moritz Oberholzer's London Bus Tour is the kind of video that make me think: why didn't I come out with something cool like that? I hope you like it.

I'm off to a Festival. The Strokes, Broken Social Scene, Goldfrapp, Beady Eye and some other cool bands awaits. A nice way to start the weekend, regardless of the non-stopping rain!

RIP: A Remix Manifesto

Recommended by my friend Carola I started to see the documentary RIP: A Remix Manifesto, a very interesting exploration on the extents of intellectual property on the digital era, and on the music and style of Girl Talk, a mashup artist that I really enjoy. The documentary was made by Brett Gaylor and consistently can be watch for free on You Tube.


Whether you believe in Copyright or Copyleft or whatever I think is a very interest piece that you can definitely enjoy.

Shoot With Your Heart

Lomography just announced the finalists of their Ten Prophecies Contest and it happens that my friend Susie Lomovitz is one of them. For the challenge she made a beautiful book and documented the process with an equally nice video so I'm almost positive that she's going to be the winner. Fingers crossed for Su!

Her 11th prophecy is: Shoot with your heart. That's definitely good advice both for lomography in particular, and life in general.

I guess everybody knows the urban legend about syncing Alice in Wonderland or The Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon but just a few have actually try it out. Well, now is your chance. Bryan Pugh a Sound Engineer from Brooklyn has done all the dirty work, now you just have to click on his Vimeo Channel and see/hear for yourself if it was just a legend or if Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Sid Barret were actually this crazy playful Oz/Wonderland fans.

Milton Glaser Words of Wisdom

Thanks to Creative Review super cool blog I discovered this collective graduation project from the Berghs School of Communication where they invite famous inspiring people, from Stefan Sagmeister to Paulo Coelho, to discuss the fear of failure. This students define themselves as risk takers, so fear of failure is something that might cross their minds kind of often, but as they say "to create challenging and compelling communication and design we have to be daring". My favorite video was Milton Glaser's, his words certainly get to me.

World Graphic Design Day

Today is the World Graphic Design Day, or at least that's what Wikipedia and my entire Twitter timeline says.

If it's so, well happy day to all you graphic designers and if not, it's always a good excuse to post this clip of the german designer Stefan Sagmeister made specially for The Creators Project by the geniuses of Vice (I'm loving their work right now).

The Creators Project features Designers, Architects, Musicians, Directors, from all around the planet, the ones that are making things happen. As they say, this project is a celebration of creativity, culture and technology. So, there you go... have a look and enjoy!

Japón

Cuando pienso en Japón, en las imágenes ese fuerte terremoto/tsunami, en cómo la prevención típica de los japoneses evitó un desastre de proporciones mayores y en cómo quiero/deseo/necesito que esté hermosa de nuevo para poder ir a visitarla pronto, me vienen a la mente las imágenes del Japón que nos presentó Sofia Coppola en Lost in Translation y en las fotos que hizo mi amiga Su cuando visitó Japón en año pasado.

Ambas son un homenaje a una cultura que ha sido permeable a la modernización extrema y sigue siendo de las más tradicionales que conocemos (o que queremos conocer). Japón manga, karaoke, arcade, neón, Godzilla, acumulación, exceso y Japón contemplativo, ascético, cherry blossom, templo, Buda, Suntory times, té. Un país que siendo así de pequeño, ha hecho espacio para todo y para todos.

Todos mis mejores deseos para Japón. Confío en ellos con los ojos cerrados y espero verlos up and running muy pronto. Preferiblemente en persona.
