Film stories

Hey everyone, happy December!

This should have happened eleven days ago, but, we still have 19 more December days to go, so woohoo! I finally developed a couple of weeks ago a bunch of films that were waiting impatiently in my desktop. There were photos from February, when it snowed in London. Go figure!

I guess that is partly why I don't mind taking ages to develop the film. Some part of me really like this delayed gratification of discovering what was on the reel. Some other part of me is just very lazy and busy and has a goldfish memory.

Anyway. It was super fun to see the photos and remember those moments. Here I share some of the photos with you. These are from London and the film apparently had a property to make every photo look like a 70's postcard. I love it!

Six Months Later: Archeology

Six months ago, the world supposed to end. It didn't.

We celebrate today in the premiere of Archeology. The first movie that comes out of the collaborative project I've been working with since November.

For a month and a half (before the end of the world) we recorded 60'' videos that were uploaded to the cloud immediately after, so we can show the future generations, or the aliens, how did our world looked like.

This is an ongoing project, so we keep recording and we invite you to get involved too!

The movie will be available online in Archeology Project for a week, as well as all the last year's videos and the ones that are being upload right now: the collective memory.

Do. Get. Involved!

This can be amazing :)

X

PS. In the 2nd photo you can see my amazing friend Marie James, the mind (heart and soul) behind this whole project.

Lisbon in Film

One of the first photos I took with my LC-A back in December. Some slightly (or completely) out of focus ;)

Lisbon in winter was lovely and not cold, definitely better than London in spring, weather-wise at least. Hope I get the chance to visit when is properly sunny and warm.

Happy Friday everyone.

Caribbean Blues

Last week, finally I took my films (some, very old ones) to the Lomography Shop in Spitafields Market to be developed. I mention them in what it would appear to be a sponsored post but it's not (I wish), just because I think the service it's been brilliant. The physical photos are yet to be send to my house but in the meantime they sent me a link with all my photos digitalised and ready to be downloaded to my computer or uploaded to my Lomo home. I think is awesome!

Anyway, let's start this rainy blue Monday with some memories from happier blues back in Los Roques this January.

Hope you all have a super nice week! x

Instax Lesson

So far my experience with Instax has been incredibly good, I love that there is an alternative to the good old Polaroids that I loved so much. However, when mixed with snow, gloves, really low temperatures and my excitement about winter and snow, this is what happened.

I reckon that the chemicals in the bottom leaked and that -this is the lesson- you should keep your photos facing up while developing. Is whether that or some sort of message from outer space that I am too silly to understand. Anyway I kind of like them.

The snow is all gone by now, the sun is shinning and the sky is blue. I definitely should try to shoot a couple new Instax today. Happy Sunday everyone! x

The End & The Beginning

I've been waiting for this day for a couple of years now. My 'end of the world' blog, my t-shirts and my totes are living proof of that. I've always thought that the fact that we get to think and talk and go crazy because of some prophecy made more than 5000 years ago is amazing. Are we capable of making something that transcends for that long? And if so, are we actually doing it?

In the past two years I've learn a lot of things, especially that every time is the perfect time to start again, to make change happens, in your life as well as in the world. Choose any job, city, hobby, belief, mania, phobia, cause or love, choose the life you want and go live it. Yes, the end of the world makes me emotional.

The video was recorded by me and is part of a work-in-progress project started by my friend Marie. The final photo, as you can see it above, shows the beginning of the end (and in some way, also the beginning of the beginning) on my new neighborhood, just where I wanted to be for this day.

What about you? How's your end of the world coming along? x

PS. Since there's still a slightly chance that we all die in a few hours I just wanted to say that it's been a pleasure to meet/read you, and to all of you that joined me and enjoy my dear end-of-the-world journey, thanks and we will always have the end of the world.

PS 2. Lovely video from three years ago Happy New End. Via HRMD.

PS 3. Today's Londonist it's really fun. Look at the url!

São Paulo in Film

More sunny memories for a rainy day. These are from my flash-trip to the lovely São Paulo this past September. Ibirapuera Park, the incredible Avenida Paulista and its arty phone-booths, and the MASP. I hope to have the chance to expend at least more than a day in São Paulo, next time my plane lands in there. Let's see!

PS: I don't have the photographic evidence, but the best sashimi I've eaten in my life was there.  Brazil is home to the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, so if you ever go to São Paulo, do yourself a favor and have massive amounts of sushi.

Minisnowflakes

Today it was freezing (-1 degree, that's a lot cold for Buenos Aires standards). Around 8.00 am I got to see like 16 snowflakes falling gracefully from the sky (for the first time ever). The rest of the day, I didn't mind about the weather being so cold, of course.

Unreal Tenses

Unreal Tenses: We used them to express regret that things are not different, to tell other people what they should do, and to talk about things that we would like to happen.

This is a grammar lesson I've just learn in my English classes. I think it's brilliant in very different levels. Apparently, I've been doing some serious unreal thinking/living these days. At least now I know how to call it. If only.

The photos are some random neighborhood film photos. A billboard that reminds me of Carrie, and my fruit stand of choice (recently named and painted). Hope you like them.

Caracas, the unhappy city

A couple a days ago was Gabriel García Marquez's birthday. I guess for that reason there was a text of him being posted and twittered all over the Internet usual sites. A moment ago I decide to read that text.

People often say about literature that for your words to be universal and be able to resonate with everyone, or at least deeply with someone, they need to come from a really personal and intimate place. That is because regardless of our specific circumstances, we all have certain things in common: loves, fears, illusions... all those things that keeps us wide awake in the middle of the night. Maybe that's why García Marquez's words describe perfectly a lot of the feelings I often have about Caracas, that unhappy city that I've been missing a lot these days.

The first time I had heard of her was in a Simón Bolívar's phrase: Caracas, the unhappy. Since then, not often I have heard people talking about Caracas without her name being accompanied by that old unfortunate fate. Apparently, her destiny is the same of some great lineage human beings; they cannot be loved but by those who are capable to bear them.

The rest of the text, if you speak Spanish, you can read it here.

Paris in B&W

They say is the most romantic city in the world, so I guess is alright to post some photos of lovely Paris today, specially if they are in black and white, innit? The Brasserie Lipp dans Saint-Germain des Pres, le Champ Élysées, one Boy-Scout dans le Quartier Latin, le Jardin du Luxembourg, le Pont Alexandre III, and of course the Rue Mademoiselle dans le 15e arrondissement.

My french sucks, so the most suitable soundtrack for this post it must be Flight of the Conchords's Foux Da Fa Fa, or because conditions are prefect... Business Time.

Happy day everyone! x

Photo: El Ávila mountain silhouette, by far the best of the city.

I'm in Caracas. Mixed feelings as usual. The only thing that I can think to say here is a paraphrasis of Nirvana's words of wisdom: here I am now, entertain me.

Salt Water

By checking on the statistics on how people from so many different places in the World end up here in my blog (which made me infinitely happy) I found a wonderful quote from Karen Blixen I couldn't be more agree with:

"The cure for anything is salt water — sweat, tears, or the sea."

I really would like to live closer to the ocean, it doesn't matter to me if it's tropical, cold, sandy or stoney, as long, of course, it is salty.
