De Gabo

Gabriel García Márquez Frente al espejo, 2010, photo by Vasco Szinetar

When I found out about that Gabo passed out, I remember the first time I re-discover the ice with him and Aureliano Buendía; I remembered Florentino Ariza's valses; my mother's One Hundred Years of Solitude books collection, that it must be already 1000 years or close; and this wonderful phrase: "the heart has more rooms than a whore house." Dear Gabo, you will be deeply missed.

-

The photos from this post are from part of the series "Frente al espejo" (In Front of the Mirror) of the genius Venezuelan photographer Vasco Szinetar.

You can have a look at the post in The Procrastinator (some) Times about Gabo, and to an old post in this blog where I posted a text where García Marquez wrote about Caracas, the unhappy city (La infeliz Caracas).

Of Maps and Totes

I.

I love maps. I really, really do. My first grown-up job was in a dull office and one of the things I remember fondly was the DHL's map that I stared to everyday looking/picking a new imaginary destination for an imaginary trip. I that map I discovered some places I didn't know existed, like the Sandwich Islands.

II.

My friends V & O got married a week ago in London. Their wedding was really awesome and included a boat trip, a ninja band and a picnic. I couldn't attend but they asked me to design the wedding souvenirs and I was truly happy because it was the first time outside of school (where I used to draw the maps of that country formerly known as Venezuela) that I get to draw/imagine/create a map. They post the map on their web and printed a simplified version on canvas totes.

III.

Mr. Phill, also a friend of V & O, was the photographer at their wedding and he took the photos that you see in this post, along with some other awesome wedding pics. He also wrote on his blog a really nice story about the whole day. Have a look at his page and his blog, you'll enjoy it :)

My Friends: Pian

It's been a while since I don't post anything about my lovely friends in the blog, and I guess that the end of one of the most hectic weeks of my life could be a good moment to continue that tradition. I mean, why not?

This time I'd like to introduce you to my friend and imaginary (for now) business partner: Andreína Pian Restrepo. Photographer, artist, designer, skate enthusiast, embroiderer to be, and all-in-all a clever and wonderful girl living in Brooklyn.

The photos featured here were taken in the Argentinian Patagonia and are part of a project called: Back to Basics. If you want to see more of her photographic work (or buy it!) please pay a visit to her Page, BehanceFlickr or her Etsy... I'm sure you're going to like what you see.

OCD

The Swiss artist Ursus Wehrli demonstrates that OCD can be a rather amazing visual exercise. You can see this in his book Kunst Aufräumen where he shows "die ganze Welt in Ordnung", the whole world in order.

If your obsession, whatever that is, can deliver such beautiful images, I definitely would encourage you to love it, live it and share it with the world! x

Sunday Morning Mix

Turning points in the evolution of love are not always the result of dramatic events; they often stem from something that at first seems completely inconsequential.
—Milan Kundera

- I've just read this phrase in the amazing Flickr page of Eduardo. Please be sure to have a look to all the stages of his photographic work.
- The fucking flower (Oil on Linen. 150 x 110 cm.) belongs to the most recent work of the Spanish artist Lino Lago.
- Finally while I was writing this post, started to sound Down in Mexico by The Coasters.

There you go, a little mix of info for this 4 degrees Sunday morning-ish.
I reckon that I'm going back to the regular cold Sunday activities: reading in bed + fall asleep. Maybe I'll be around here later x

World Photography Day

"World Photography Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Louis Daguerre. On January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences announced the Daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government announced the invention as a gift "free to the world"."

Flickr and The Guardian and I guess a lot of other sites are making groups to share the photos you take today and/or during the weekend... so, take a photo, take, take, take a photo! :)

My photo is part of the West Country Tour that I recently made. I promise I'll keep writing about starting today. It's the perfect Mr. Whippy and was made and eaten in Durdle Door and is illustrating this post because it was the first thing that came into my mind when I read the world gift. A Mr. Whippy, is also a gift to the world. A delicious one. No doubt about it.

I am more than my face :)

That's the name of this series of photographs by Mitsuko Nagone in which she explores the infinite possibilities that lies within the self. Something that you might only accomplish by actively creating yourself. (I hope you understand what I wanted to say). The only thing I can add to this wonderful images is: Mitsuko, I feel you.

París, París, París

Photos by Susie Lomovitz.

¡quiero ir a París!

My best friend that lives in France, Danielle, just left Buenos Aires yesterday after expending here 3 weeks. My other best friend Su (one of my three BFF's that lives in Madrid) just got back home from a mini holidays in Paris. There are moments when every road points the same way... or... there are moments in live when we want to see every road pointing the same way. Either way the result is the same... I wanna go to Paris! :)

Annette Messager, the painter of love

.

We have films about love, we have novels about love, we should have paintings of love.

I draw in the lines of your foot. I paint in the lines of your mouth. I make watercolors in your hand. I sew images in your ear. I draw a map in your navel…

Lost names

.

Losing names is a little bit like
watching a cloudy sunrise feeling
a somewhat misplaced nostalgia
or missing a page in your address book
and not noticing.

Un estado de ánimo

.

Que me ha acompañado durante buena parte del 2010.

La foto es parte del trabajo de Lucy Mc Rae y aparece en Rojo Nova, que son como ellos mismos se describen: an interactive, full-environmental experience utilizing color, light, textures, music and design, in the form of collaborative and integrated compositions by a wide range of artists from around the world.

Un interesante descubrimiento para el finde.

You'll find some weekends from friends in my blog-roll as Marion (photo 1) and Sandra (photo 2), you can also meet new people like Nora (photo 3), and finally you can see -again- three of my photos from my pic-nic day in Otamendi :)

Thanks a lot to Laura for publishing it... I hope my English wasn't that bad!

Photo: Robert Mapplethorpe

.
